How the baby name combiner works

Enter both parents' names and the tool blends them into new baby name ideas. It tries many cut points, joins the pieces, removes awkward results, and ranks the rest by flow. Every result shows which letters came from each parent.

From two names to a short list

  1. Enter two namesUse first names. Add a gender and style if the tool offers them.
  2. BlendThe tool tries many cut points and joins the pieces.
  3. RankEach blend gets a flow score. Hard-to-say blends sink.
  4. Save and testSave favorites, then say each one with your last name.
The tools run in your browser. Your names are not sent to a server.

Coral letters come from the first name, teal letters from the second, and dark letters are shared. Faded letters are left out. The same color code is used in every result on Techilam.

What the gender-feel labels mean

Names do not have a built-in gender. The labels are a simple hint based on endings that are common in English-speaking countries.

LabelWhat the tool looks atExample
Leans feminineEndings such as -a, -i, -ie, -elleYuhana
Leans masculineFirm endings such as -r, -d, -k, -t, -oLaymar
Gender-neutral feelEndings such as -n, -l, -e, -yLaylen

Treat the labels as a starting point. Naming patterns are different in many cultures and languages, and many names are used for any gender.

First name or middle name?

A blend can be a first name or a middle name. If the blend is easy to say and spell, it can stand alone. If it is more unusual, many parents use it as a middle name and choose a familiar first name. Our guide on baby names from parents' names shows five ways to bring both names in.

Example blends

ParentsIdeasNote
Zara + IdrisZaris, IdraraA short option and a longer one
Emma + LiamLiamma, EmmaliBoth names stay easy to spot
Hana + YusufYuhana, HanyusCompact and easy to say
Maya + OmarMamar, OmamaShort results, so read them aloud first

How to choose from the results

  1. Save five to ten blends that you like.
  2. Remove any that are hard to spell.
  3. Say each one with your last name.
  4. Look up the meaning of each piece in the languages your family speaks.
  5. Compare your favorites with real names in the baby name generator.

Baby name combiner FAQ

What is a baby name combiner?

It is a tool that blends two parents' names into new baby name ideas. Techilam ranks each idea by how easy it is to say.

Does the tool know the baby's gender?

No. You can choose a gender or name feel, and the tool filters blends by ending patterns. This is a hint and not a rule.

Are the names I enter stored?

No. Everything runs in your browser. Saved names stay on your device only.

Can I use a blend as a middle name?

Yes. Many parents use a blend as a middle name and choose a familiar first name.

Do blended names have meanings?

A blend has no meaning of its own. Look up the meaning of each piece, or use the baby name generator to find real names with known meanings.

What if I have more than two names to blend?

Blend two first, then use the result as one of the names in a new blend.
