How this name combiner works

The name combiner cuts each name at natural breaks, usually where a vowel meets a consonant. It joins the pieces in every sensible order, removes results that are too short, too long, or hard to say, and ranks what is left with a flow score from 5 to 99.

One example, letter by letter

+

Keep all of Ali. Keep the first two letters of Sara.

gives
The result is Alisa. Three letters come from the first name and two from the second, so both names are easy to spot.

From two names to a short list

  1. Enter two namesUse first names. Add a gender and style if the tool offers them.
  2. BlendThe tool tries many cut points and joins the pieces.
  3. RankEach blend gets a flow score. Hard-to-say blends sink.
  4. Save and testSave favorites, then say each one with your last name.
The tools run in your browser. Your names are not sent to a server.

  • Pairing formats such as "Ali & Sara" and "A + S" are shown at the bottom for signs, invitations, and logos.

What the flow score checks

The flow score is not a mystery number. It is a short list of rules about vowels, consonants, length, endings, and how fairly both names are used. You can read the full rules below, and the pronounceability checklist explains each one in detail.

How the flow score works

Every blend starts at 40 points, then gains or loses points for how easy it is to say. The final score is kept between 5 and 99.

Adds points

  • +14Both names show up (40%+ of letters from each)
  • +10Length of 5 to 8 letters
  • +10Vowels make up 33-55% of letters
  • +8Two or three syllables
  • +8Names overlap on 2+ letters
  • +6Ends in a vowel (a, e, i, o, y)
  • +6Vowel and consonant meet at the join

Takes points away

  • -20Same letter three times in a row
  • -12Three consonants in a row
  • -10Four or more vowels in a row
  • -8Over 10 letters, or too few or too many vowels
  • -6Two consonants collide at the join
These are the exact rules the Techilam tools use. A score tells you how easy a name is to say. It cannot tell you whether the name is right for your family.

The length sweet spot

Points added to the flow score by name length. Blends under 4 or over 12 letters are not shown.

Who uses a name combiner

  • Couples who want a shared nickname for a wedding sign, a gift, or a joint account.

Tips for better results

  • Try both orders of the names, since the results change. The "Try an example" button shows how different pairs behave.
  • Use first names only. If a name has two words, the tool uses the first word.
  • Save your favorites with the Save button. They stay on your device.
  • Say each finalist out loud, then say it with a last name.
  • Check the spelling with a friend. If they guess two different spellings, pick a simpler form.
  • Use "Copy link to these results" to share your list with a partner.

Name combiner FAQ

What is a name combiner?

A name combiner is a tool that blends two names into one new name by joining parts of each. Techilam also ranks the results by how easy they are to say.

How do I combine two names?

Type a first and a second name, then press Combine names. You will see blends ranked by flow score, with color-coded letters that show which name each letter came from.

Is the name combiner free?

Yes. It is free, needs no sign-up, and has no usage limit.

Are my names saved or sent anywhere?

No. The blending runs in your browser. Names you press Save on are stored only on your own device, and you can clear them at any time.

Can I use it for baby names?

Yes. The baby name combiner adds gender-feel labels, and the baby name generator adds curated names with meanings.

Why do some names give few results?

Very short names, or names with many repeated letters, have fewer clean cut points. Try a longer spelling or the pairing formats.

Does a high flow score mean the name is good?

It means the name is easy to say. Whether it fits you is your call. See how to combine two names for how to choose.
